Ongoing Trial with Lipid Modifying Agents

Trial - AIM-HIGH
(Niacin Plus Statin to Prevent Vascular Events.)

Outcome:
Composite end point of CHD death, non-fatal MI, ischaemic stroke, or hospitalization for high-risk non ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (measured at time to first occurrence of one of these events).

Expected total enrollment:
3300 patients with established vascular disease and atherogenic dyslipidaemia [low HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) (< 40 mg/dL - men - or < 50 mg/dL - women) and high triglycerides (TG) (>150 mg/dL)].

Comparison:
Niacin/simvastatin vs simvastatin.

Design:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial, parallel-group.

Trial - EALIPPCA
(Effect of atorvastatin and lifestyle intervention on progression of pre-clinical atherosclerosis)

Outcome:
Progression of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT).

Expected Total Enrollment:
1200 nondiabetic Chinese subjects with CIMT >0.9 mm, without clinical diagnosis of atherosclerotic disease.

Comparison:
Atorvastatin + aggresive lifestyle intervention vs atorvastatin vs aggressive lifestyle intervention vs placebo.

Design:
